Framed Chrysochroa fulminans cobaltina or Blue Jewel Beetle from the Philipines. The Buprestid family (Jewel Beetles or metallic wood boring beetles) is an amazingly diverse and colorful collection of beetles, one of the largest families of beetles with over 15.000 species in the family. Their patterns and iridescence lead many to question whether they are real (they are!), and the these beetles are often highly prized by collectors. Some of the wing covers (elytra) of these jewel beetles are used in earrings because of their glossy iridescence.
