Impressive trilobite fossil from Morocco.  This specimen is approximately 2 1/4 inches long and 1 1/4 inches at its widest point.  Including the matrix, this specimen is approximately 2 1/4 inches tall.

Trilobites are hard-shelled, segmented creatures that lived hundreds of millions of years ago in the Earth’s ancient seas.  They are considered to be one of the planet’s earliest life-forms.  Trilobites were extinct before the emergence of the dinosaurs.

Trilobites have been called the “butterflies of the ancient seas” for their exotic, graceful beauty.  The sheer number of different species and their enormous diversity in size and anatomy make them an incredibly fascinating creature.
