You will receive the specimen shown, or one like it.
Hymenopus coronatus, commonly known as the Orchid Mantis, is one of the most stunning and famous praying mantises in the world. Native to Indonesia and surrounding Southeast Asian regions, this species is renowned for its remarkable resemblance to orchid flowers. Adult females, which are larger than males, can reach 6 to 7 centimeters in length.
The body is broad and flattened, with petal-like limbs and wings that mimic the shape and delicate folds of orchid petals. The coloration on Females is typically a pale Yellow/Orange, sometimes with subtle touches of white, helping it blend seamlessly into flowering plants. This camouflage allows it to ambush prey such as butterflies, bees, and other insects that visit flowers.
The triangular head can rotate almost 180 degrees, equipped with large, keen eyes for detecting movement. Its front legs, lined with sharp spines, are perfectly adapted for grasping and holding prey. Despite its delicate appearance, the Orchid Mantis is an effective predator, relying on patience, stealth, and its floral disguise.
The female Hymenopus coronatus is particularly striking because of its size, vibrant colors, and elaborate limb shapes, making it both a master of mimicry and one of nature’s most elegant hunters.
