Corvus albus, commonly known as the Pied Crow, is a widespread and adaptable bird found throughout sub-Saharan Africa and some parts of the Middle East. It is one of the most familiar and easily recognizable members of the crow family in Africa due to its striking appearance and bold behavior.

The Pied Crow is medium to large-sized, measuring about 45–50 cm (18–20 inches) in length. Its plumage is mostly glossy black, with a distinct white patch covering the chest and the back of the neck, giving it a “pied” or two-toned look. It has a strong, slightly curved black bill and sturdy legs, both well-adapted for its omnivorous lifestyle.

Highly intelligent and opportunistic, Corvus albus thrives in a wide variety of habitats, including savannas, coastal regions, open woodlands, towns, and even large cities. It is frequently seen scavenging on roadsides, garbage dumps, or near human settlements. Its diet is extremely varied and includes insects, small animals, carrion, grains, fruits, and food scraps.
